Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
Relay, Inc. ("Relay", "we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
You give us directly
- Account info: name, work email, firm name, role, primary state, practice area, bar number (optional).
- Referral content: client information, case notes, fee-agreement terms, attachments — only what you choose to share.
- Communications: emails, support messages, feedback.
Collected automatically
- Usage data: pages visited, actions taken, timestamps.
- Device data: browser type, IP address, approximate location (country/region).
- Cookies: used to keep you logged in and remember preferences. No tracking cookies from advertisers.
2. How we use it
- To operate and improve Relay.
- To verify your attorney credentials before activating your account.
- To send service emails (welcome, referral notifications, status changes).
- To send occasional product updates — you can unsubscribe anytime.
- To respond to support requests.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. How we protect it
- Encryption in transit: all traffic uses TLS.
- Encryption at rest: client PII is encrypted at the field level.
- Access control: only authorized staff with a need-to-know can access systems.
- Audit logs: every significant action is recorded with timestamps.
4. How we share it
We do not sell your data. We share it only with:
- Other attorneys on Relay when you explicitly send them a referral.
- Service providers we use to operate Relay (e.g., Supabase, Vercel, Stripe, ConvertKit) — each under contractual privacy commitments.
- Legal authorities if required by law.
5. Your rights
- Request a copy of your data.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated data (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Opt out of marketing communications.
Email privacy@relay.law to exercise any of these rights.
6. Retention
We retain referral records and fee agreements indefinitely (or until you request deletion) because attorneys may need them for fee disputes, bar complaints, or audits years after a case closes. Other data is retained only as long as needed.
7. Children
Relay is for licensed attorneys. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
8. Changes
We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email and post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date.
